Thousands of Polish Catholics walk annual 33-mile Marian pilgrimage

Thousands of Polish Catholics make their way around the south side of Chicago after celebrating Mass on Aug. 9, 2025, during the 38th Annual Polish Marian Pilgrimage from Immaculate Conception Church, 2944 E. 88th St., Chicago, to the Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine in Merrillville, Indiana. More than 4,000 people walked the two-day, 33-mile pilgrimage. The pilgrimage is in honor of the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, celebrated on Aug. 15, which marks the Virgin Mary’s bodily ascent to heaven at the end of her life.
