    Before I was appointed a bishop of the Catholic Church, I worked eighteen years in the Tribunal for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee that handled judgments on failed marriages of individuals who desired contact with the Church following a divorce and/or hoping for a church approved second marriage.more >>

  • STARVING FOR ATTENTION
    As global emergencies cause widespread hunger, the U.S. must provide more food assistance to help poor countries weather the crisis.
    For the last 50 years when crisis such as drought, natural disasters or conflict raised levels of hunger in poor countries, food aid from the United States and other wealthy countries helped fill the gap.  Over the last year however, emergencies and disasters around the globe have turned the gap into a chasm, affecting more than 73 million people this past summer alone.

  • Tsunami Strikes South Asia Update
    Current Situation:
    CRS wants to express thanks for the enormous outpourings and expressions of support for the victims and survivors of the tsunami disaster.  The death toll from the tsunami now exceeds 280,000, with the majority of those, more than 100,000, on the Indonesian island of Sumatra.  In all of the affected countries, efforts are shifting from emergency relief to recover and rehabilitation.

  • The Humanitarian Crisis in Sudan: A Regional and Global Emergency
    An estimated 70,000 people are known dead, more than 1.5 million are homeless and at least 2.2 million people are affected by the humanitarian emergency in Darfur, Sudan. The situation is becoming even more grave as the rainy season takes its toll: The World Health Organization estimates that as many as 10,000 people may be dying each month. Malnutrition, malaria and cholera are among the greatest health risks.
