Zacchaeus House
Luke 19:5

Established in 2002, Zacchaeus House is a ministry of Catholic Deacons offering hospitality to men in transition to stability in their lives. A group of African American Deacons were in conversation with Bishop Perry back in 1999 wishing to provide a response to homelessness among men in the city of Chicago with a new ministerial venture welcoming the volunteer service of any deacon of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Zacchaeus House is a not-for-profit, non-treatment residential facility for displaced men seeking an opportunity to better their situation. The Program got its official start December 2002. The doors opened March 2003. The House was blessed on August 2, by Francis Cardinal George.

Zacchaues House is located at 12242 S. Parnell. The phone number is 773/568-7822.
The House provides a secure environment of respect, order and peace while offering opportunities for sharpening life skills, growth in self-esteem, and spiritual maturity towards achieving responsible and independent living. Deacon Abrom Salley is the Director of Zacchaeus House living full time on the premises with the assistance of fellow deacons functioning as round-the-clock house monitors, prefects in areas of the House program, intake, leading prayer services, Bible study, character development and values sessions, referrals to professional agencies outside the House and cooperating with other church and civic sponsored services ministering to this under served group of the city’s poor.

Zaccheus House needs your support! Your contribution of any amount is appreciated! Be assured that your donation will be well spent and your contribution goes directly to run Zacchaus House. There is a wish list of needs, which include: a van or car in good working order, blankets for twin beds, towels and wash cloths, soap, shampoo, and deodorant, toothbrushes and paste, disposal razors, men’s work pants, men’s t-shirts and underwear, work boots sizes 9, 10, 00, spiritual materials, spiritual books, pots and pans, kitchen towels, clocks, fans, lamps and exercise equipment.
