Mary Norfleet-Johnson believes in the African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child.” To ensure she was equipped to touch young people’s lives, Mary earned an Associate degree in Business from South Suburban College, a BA in Psychology and a MA in Community Counseling from Chicago State University. After many years doing extensive counseling with at risk adolescents and families, especially those adolescents in foster care, Mary moved into ministry. Two years ago she earned her Master of Divinity degree at Catholic Theological Union where she was an Augustus Tolton Scholar. Mary is the Archdiocese of Chicago’s new Director of the Office for Black Catholics. She is a member of the Advisory Board of the Augustus Tolton Pastoral Ministry Program, as well as several national Black Catholic organizations and boards. As if she is not busy enough, Mary guest lectures in various venues including Catholic Theological Union and schools through out the Archdiocese of Chicago. She is a youth retreat facilitator and has initiated many innovative programs for our youth and families in Vicariate VI.
